A delish greek delight to treat yourself to!

Trying this for the first time this summer whilst on holiday in Greece, got me thinking if it would work in the slow cooker - the answer is yes! The beef cooks down, becoming tender and falling apart. Whilst the orzo absorbs the sweet tomoto suace, all in the slow cooker!

To really treat yourself you could crumble feta on top and serve with bread.

Ingredients

Serves 4

  • 600-700g stewing steak, cut into chunks

  • 250g orzo (or other tiny pasta)

  • 1 tin chopped tomatoes

  • 2 tbsp tomato puree

  • 1 onion, diced

  • 4 garlic cloves crushed

  • 250ml red wine and 1 beef stock pot (you can use water instead of wine but it will not be as rich)

  • 2 bay leaves

Directions

  1. Heat oil in a pan over a high heat, fry off the beef until brown all over and set aside

  2. Add the red wine to the pan and cook off the alcohol for a couple of minutes. make sure to scrape up all the brown bits off the bottem of your pan

  3. Add the beef and red wine to the slow cooker, along with the rest of the ingredients, other than the orzo

  4. Cook on low for 7-8 hours

  5. Add the orzo and cook on low for 30-40 minutes (until orzo is cooked)

  6. Remove the bay leaves, and serve!
