Inspired by a recent trip to South Africa.
Trinchado is a Portuguese inspired South African dish which I tried for the first time on a recent trip to South Africa and loved it! It is also perfect for the slow cooker.
Traditional it is served with bread and chips, although I just had it with bread as I was trying to be good after a rather indulgent holiday. It can easily be frozen for left overs as well!
Ingredients
Serves 4
600g-800g shin beef, chopped into chunks
1/2 cup beef stock
1/2 cup red wine
1 onion diced
4 garlic cloves crushed
3 tbsp flour
3 tbsp peri peri sauce
2-3 chillies (depending on spice level)
3 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp tomato puree
2 peppers, sliced (optional - not traditional but I added in to get the veggies in!)
Directions
Coat the beef in the flour, heat a frying pan and brown off.
Add the red wine and simmer for about 1 minute to burn off the alcohol
Add the rest of the ingredients and mix well
Add to the slow cooker and cook for 8 hours on low or 4 hours on high
